Federal and state regulations require the inspection of packages containing radioactive material when delivered to your facility. In general, licensees are required to check for radiation levels and for radioactive contamination on the outer surfaces of packages. The survey requirements vary depending on the type of package delivered, but the goal is to determine if the packages were prepared properly or if any damage may have occurred during transport. If problems are discovered, then licensees are required to take action. Any worker involved in the receipt and inspection of packages containing radioactive material must be trained to do this in accordance with regulations and conditions of your radioactive material license.Individuals completing this course should be familiar with the basics of radiation and radioactivity, radiation interaction with matter, health effects from exposure to radiation, and radiation detection and measurement.
