This module reviews the principles of ALARA and other good practices for implementing an effective radiation safety program. The online course should provide trainees with a better understanding of the elements of a radiation safety program, which typically includes the following:
- Radiation Safety Officer's duties and responsibilities
- Responsibilities and requirements of users or radiation or radioactive materials
- General policies and procedures for the use of radiation sources
- Radioactive contamination, spill, and other emergency procedure
- Radiation dosimetry for personnel
- Area survey procedures
- Disposal of radioactive materials
- Procedures for procurement, receipt and inventory of radiation sources
- Qualifications of users and radiation safety training
1 hour is awarded on the certificate for this training based on anticipated time to complete all training modules and review all relevant reference material. Depending on a student's familiarization with the topics and reference material, this time to complete the course may vary, but will not change the number of hours awarded.
