This module reviews the principles of ALARA and other good practices for implementing an effective radiation safety program. The online course should provide trainees with a better understanding of the elements of a radiation safety program, which typically includes the following:
• Radiation Safety Officer's duties and responsibilities
• Responsibilities and requirements of users or radiation or radioactive materials
• General policies and procedures for the use of radiation sources
• Radioactive contamination, spill, and other emergency procedure
• Radiation dosimetry for personnel
• Area survey procedures
• Disposal of radioactive materials
• Procedures for procurement, receipt and inventory of radiation sources
• Qualifications of users and radiation safety training
